| Our company was established near the turn of the
Twentieth Century and has contributed substantially to the history
and economic development of the metals trade industry. Past and
present members of our staff have played important roles in developing
our corporate image.
AMG Industries, Inc. was founded as a partnership in Akron, Ohio,
in 1904, under the name of Akron Metallic Gasket Company. The original
partners pursued the manufacture of metal gaskets, primarily for
the stationary engine, pump, compressor and boiler industries.

The first change in ownership occurred in 1957. The new principles
immediately incorporated the firm as Akron Metallic Gasket Company,
Inc. In 1959, James A. McElroy was recruited as General Manager
and a new management team was put into place.
Diversification was quickly implemented. Innovative production technology
was perfected to the point that business growth during the ensuing
five years exhausted the capacities of the original facility. The
company relocated to Mount Vernon, Ohio, and constructed a new facility
in 1966. At that time, the old company name was retired in favor
of "AMG Industries, Inc."
Encouraged by the success of the sixties, AMG Industries, Inc. targeted
the automotive markets in 1970. The first contract was consummated
with Ford Motor Company in 1971. This effort would prove to be the
beginning of the company's ultimate role as a leading automotive
supplier.
In the late 1970s, the size of the Mount Vernon facility doubled
to service a broadening market base, primarily within the domestic
automotive industry. At that juncture, AMG Industries, Inc. became
the sole supplier of ultra precision shim laminates to Ford and
General Motors.
The 1980's brought the threat of offshore competition to the U.S.
auto industry, which prompted a revolution in those markets. Stringent
quality-oriented supplier standards were mandated by the automotive
industry. AMG Industries, Inc. responded to this challenge with
the typical zeal and determination displayed throughout our long
history.
Corporate-wide improvement programs were initiated to assure that
AMG Industries, Inc. remained a market leader. A five-year program
involved the installation of Statistical Process Control, the establishment
of a metallurgical testing lab, the expansion of EDP systems, the
adaptation of just-in-time delivery disciplines, and numerous lesser
refinements that involved every facet of the operation.
AMG Industries, Inc. continues to respond to the needs of our customers.
Our company received ISO 9000 and ISO 9002 registrations in 1998.
We now occupy a 120,000 square-foot facility, which includes a 30,000
square-foot expansion housing our continuous-belt brazing line and
a centralized shipping department. As our company moves forward
with the ever-changing automotive industry, we will continue our
history of refining processes, acquiring new technology and maintaining
the integrity of our products. This dedication will ensure AMG Industries,
Inc.'s role as a leader in the automotive market. |
